Dangote Refinery Slashes LPG Price to ₦760/kg as Nigerians React to Market Impact

In a move aimed at easing Nigeria’s gas supply challenges, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has once again reduced the ex-depot price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), dropping it from ₦810 to ₦760 per kilogram.
This is the second price reduction in recent weeks, with the refinery now undercutting competitors by up to ₦190 per kilogram. The adjustment is part of efforts to stabilize the local gas market, which has faced supply disruptions following the PENGASSAN strike affecting loading terminals nationwide.
However, the impact on retail prices remains limited. In many parts of Lagos and Ogun states, a 5kg cylinder of cooking gas still sells for as high as ₦3,500, as dealers and middlemen continue to influence final consumer pricing.
Reactions from the public have been mixed. While some Nigerians commend Dangote for responding to market conditions and supporting affordability, others have expressed concerns about the company’s growing influence over the downstream energy market.
Analysts believe the latest price review could force other suppliers to reconsider their pricing models, possibly leading to a gradual reduction in consumer prices across the country.
The Dangote Refinery has continued to dominate Nigeria’s energy landscape since commencing full operations earlier this year, playing a key role in reducing import dependence and boosting local refining capacity.
